Summary

Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks。 The luxurious train is surprisingly full for the time of the year, but by the morning it is one passenger fewer。 An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, his door locked from the inside。

Isolated and with a killer in their midst, detective Hercule Poirot must identify the murderer—in case he or she decides to strike again。

Agatha Christie is the Queen of Mystery Writing。 I find it hard to deduce the ending before it is revealed though she does lay out the clues for us。 No matter which of her books I pick up, I'm never disappointed。 Even if you have seen the movie, I highly recommend reading the book。 Agatha Christie is the Queen of Mystery Writing。 I find it hard to deduce the ending before it is revealed though she does lay out the clues for us。 No matter which of her books I pick up, I'm never disappointed。 Even if you have seen the movie, I highly recommend reading the book。 。。。more

What a ride! No wonder Agatha Cristie is the "Queen of Mystery"。 I guess it would be even more enjoyable whilst reading on a long distance journey by train。 What a ride! I loved the "perfect" ending。 This is one of the few mystery stories where the criminal goes unpunished (even after being caught!)。 I loved the "perfect" ending。 This is one of the few mystery stories where the criminal goes unpunished (even after being caught!)。 。。。more

Firstly, this book was okay because it was crafted in an interesting manner。 Agatha Christie clearly has a talent with mysteries and I think the book certainly expresses that。 Secondly, the buildup to the climax of the book was executed well。 The words and the deliberation by M。 Poirot made it more enjoyable。 With these things being said, I did not enjoy the ending of the book。 It was just too predictable for me and did not offer the satisfaction I was looking for in a mystery。 I recommend this Firstly, this book was okay because it was crafted in an interesting manner。 Agatha Christie clearly has a talent with mysteries and I think the book certainly expresses that。 Secondly, the buildup to the climax of the book was executed well。 The words and the deliberation by M。 Poirot made it more enjoyable。 With these things being said, I did not enjoy the ending of the book。 It was just too predictable for me and did not offer the satisfaction I was looking for in a mystery。 I recommend this book for anyone looking for a light mystery read。 。。。more

A classic who-dunnit murder mystery from the Queen of Crime and another installment in the Hercule Poirot series。 It’s a clever set up with Poirot and 13 passengers traveling on a sleeper train that is stalled in the mountains when a murder occurs。 Poirot interviews each of the passengers in turn and the reader is privy to some, but not all, of his thought process, which creates suspense as he makes his way towards solving the case。 It’s a bit too tidy at times, with red herring after red herrin A classic who-dunnit murder mystery from the Queen of Crime and another installment in the Hercule Poirot series。 It’s a clever set up with Poirot and 13 passengers traveling on a sleeper train that is stalled in the mountains when a murder occurs。 Poirot interviews each of the passengers in turn and the reader is privy to some, but not all, of his thought process, which creates suspense as he makes his way towards solving the case。 It’s a bit too tidy at times, with red herring after red herring, but really satisfying as the puzzle pieces click into place。 I listened to the audio version, which is expertly narrated by Dan Stevens (Matthew in Downton Abbey)。 I loved his ability to voice distinctly different characters with a variety of accents (English, American, Swedish, German, French)。 Highly recommended。 。。。more

A good night time read。 I read all my detective books generally as bed time books。 This is a perfect stress buster。

My favourite Agatha Christie (Hercule Poirot) book so far。 Let’s start off with how the setting of the whole story was unique。 From the crime to the solving, all happens in the Orient Express (in a train)。 The ending was unexpected …。 definitely an amazing and thrilling read。 100% Recommended。

I had the absurd thought that I can for once solve one of Agatha Christie's mysteries。 I was certain that I knew who was the murderer。 This is the last time I attempt to use my grey cells like this。 I was beyond surprised when I read the final chapter, because even in my wild imagination I would've not guessed the culprit。 This is why I would never be disappointed with any of her works。 Also, this is the first time that I heard an Agatha Christie audiobook。 I finally read her works in 3 format ( I had the absurd thought that I can for once solve one of Agatha Christie's mysteries。 I was certain that I knew who was the murderer。 This is the last time I attempt to use my grey cells like this。 I was beyond surprised when I read the final chapter, because even in my wild imagination I would've not guessed the culprit。 This is why I would never be disappointed with any of her works。 Also, this is the first time that I heard an Agatha Christie audiobook。 I finally read her works in 3 format (paper, epub & audiobook) and in 3 languages。 But I must say that I didn't quite like how the narrator portrait Hercule Poirot (my favourite detective) voice。 It was。。。。soft, and I always pictured a deep voice。 。。。more

This is the first Agatha Christie book I have read in maybe 30 years。 Not sure if I think Agatha Christie really holds up, what you notice are so many ways that people are characterized in a demeaning sterotyped fashion。 Worth reading if you want to get a sense of the shorthand reference people used。

This is my first Agatha Christie and I’m not disappointed。 To really enjoy this classic “who done it” you must cast aside practicalities and logic and go along with this fun tale。 Does it seem all to convenient the way it is set up? Yes absolutely。 But who cares! Murder on the Orient Express is an easy read that had me guessing and chuckling throughout。

This was the perfect travel read! Christie is so clever and I never figure out the mystery! Ha!
